Click the button to open the Preferences window, and then select the Editing tab. The available options are as follows:

Timeline:

Set default transition behavior: select the default behavior of transitions added between two clips on a timeline track. See Setting Transition Behavior for more information on the differences between the overlap and cross transition.

Add transition between photos when applying Pan & Zoom: select this option to add the transition selected in Transition type between photos when using the Pan & Zoom tool and apply to all photos.

Add an effect and a title when using Freeze Frame: select this option to automatically add an effect and title effect to the timeline when you click the Freeze Frame button.

Return to beginning of video after preview: select this option if you want the playback slider to return to beginning of the selected video clip (clip mode) or the video project (movie mode) at the end of playback. If deselected, the playback slider stays at the end of the clip/project when the playback ends.

Switch to movie mode automatically during playback: select this option if you want PowerDirector to auto switch to movie mode when previewing your video production. Doing this allows you to preview all the content in your video production (from the current timeline slider position), instead of just the selected clip.

Enable snap to clips in timeline: deselect this option if you don't want clips to snap to other clips when moving them around on the timeline tracks.

Enlarge timeline scale for audio track: select this option to increase the timeline scale for more precise audio syncing. Doing this allows for easier mixing of audio in-track by allowing syncing down to 1/10 of a frame.

Reverse timeline track order (track 1 at bottom): select this option if you want to reverse the timeline track order. Doing this places the main video track (track 1) at the bottom of the timeline, and then you add all overlay effects and PiP images/videos on the higher tracks in the timeline.

Set default insert project behavior: select whether you want inserted projects to be nested or expanded in the timeline. See Importing PowerDirector Projects for more information.

Durations:

set the default durations (in seconds) for image files and the different effects, transitions, titles, subtitles, etc. when placed in the timeline.

Keyboard hotkeys:

click the Customize button to fully customize PowerDirector's keyboard shortcut hotkeys to fit your requirements. See Customizing Keyboard Hotkeys for detailed information.

click the Import button to import a custom hotkey set. See Hotkey Sets for more information.
