Setting Project Aspect Ratio

Scroll Prev Top Next More

To set the aspect ratio for your project, and your outputted video, select 4:3, 16:9, 9:16*, 1:1*, or 360* from the aspect ratio drop-down located below the project preview window.

When you select 360, your project will actually have an aspect ratio of 2:1 and is for users wanting to create and produce 360° virtual reality videos. See 360° Video Projects for more detail about these types of projects, and Playing 360° Media Files for more information on the extra preview window controls available in these types of projects.

If you want to create/output a vertical video or video for playback on a portrait monitor, you should select the 9:16 aspect ratio. To create a square video preferred by some Instagram video creators, try the 1:1 aspect ratio.

If some of the video clips you want to use in your video production have different aspect ratios, you can also adjust the aspect ratio of an individual clip once it is on the timeline. See Adjusting Video Clip Aspect Ratio for more information.
