CyberLink Corp. Launches FaceMe® SDK 7.0, Offering Enhanced Facial Recognition for Edge Devices

Taipei, TAIWAN – September 26, 2024 – CyberLink Corp. (5203.TW), a pioneer in AI and facial recognition technologies, today announced the release of the latest version of its facial recognition engine, FaceMe® SDK 7.0. This update includes the new lightweight 11th-generation facial recognition model (VH11), optimized for edge computing devices. Compared to the previous version, the True Acceptance Rate (TAR) has improved by 43%, and the False Acceptance Rate (FAR) has increased in precision by 300%, all while improving memory usage flexibility on devices. Additionally, 3D anti-spoofing functionality for iOS mobile devices has strengthened, and it now supports the latest Jetpack 5.1.3, opening more applications for a variety of AIoT devices.

FaceMe® SDK 7.0: A Lightweight and Highly Accurate Facial Recognition Engine Tailored for Edge Devices

43% Improvement in Facial Recognition Accuracy
In the latest FaceMe® SDK 7.0, the lightweight and high-performance facial recognition model (VH), optimized for edge devices, has been upgraded. The newly integrated 11th-generation facial recognition model achieves a True Acceptance Rate (TAR) of 97.58%, under the same False Acceptance Rate (FAR) of one in a million. Providing a 43% improvement over the previous version, this enhancement enables the system to accurately identify legitimate users even in challenging environments, offering a better user experience for applications like facial recognition access control systems and identity verification apps on edge computing devices.

300% Increase in Facial Recognition Precision
In addition to improved accuracy, the new 11th-generation facial recognition model (VH11) introduces a stricter False Acceptance Rate threshold of one in ten million, resulting in a 300% improvement in recognition precision. Even with such stringent criteria, the True Acceptance Rate remains as high as 96.64%, further expanding the potential applications and capabilities of edge devices.

More Flexible Memory Usage Configuration
FaceMe® SDK 7.0 also offers greater flexibility by enabling developers to choose which functions to enable in their applications. Now, unused modules will not be loaded into memory, significantly reducing memory consumption when running the application. Selectable features include face landmark detection, mask detection, face orientation, age, gender, emotion, and facial obstructions. This enhanced memory flexibility enables smoother facial recognition performance across a broader range of edge devices, while lowering the demand on device resources.

Upgraded 3D Anti-Spoofing for iOS
FaceMe® SDK 7.0 also enhances its anti-spoofing capabilities for iOS devices equipped with 3D depth-sensing cameras, enabling accurate detection and prevention of spoofing attempts using 3D masks. This is especially beneficial for applications like eKYC identity verification apps on iOS, as it improves the system’s ability to prevent fraudulent identity spoofing, ensuring higher security.

Support for the Latest Jetson AGX Orin Series
FaceMe® SDK 7.0 supports the latest JetPack 5.1.3 software development kit, making it compatible with edge computing modules such as Jetson Xavier NX, AGX Xavier, Orin Nano, Orin NX, and AGX Orin. When combined with AIoT devices and robust computational power, facial recognition can be applied to a variety of use cases, including access control, security systems, point-of-sale (POS) terminals, kiosks, and digital signage.

"The release of FaceMe® SDK 7.0 highlights our dedication to advancing accuracy and performance," said Mei Guu, President of CyberLink Business Unit 2. "Not only have we improved facial recognition accuracy and precision, but we also provide developers with greater memory flexibility, allowing FaceMe® to run smoothly on a broader range of edge computing devices. This reduces resource demands and helps customers save costs."
